Mara was born in Cuba and moved to Miami at age 12, where she learned to dance casino salsa at the Salsa Lovers Dance Studio.  After enrolling at FSU for her B.S. in Electrical Engineering, she discovered the ¡Azúcar! Dance Company and started taking their lessons.  A semester later, she joined the organization and became an instructor and performer.  She is the current president and a big part of ¡Azúcar!'s success.

Kelly was born and raised in Miami.  She came to Tallahassee in the summer of 2002 to study exercise physiology at FSU.  She is completing her associate of science degree in emergency medical services at Tallahassee Community College.  She learned to dance casino salsa in Tallahassee and took one semester of salsa classes with ¡Azúcar!, before joining the group in 2004, now a performer and co-lead instructor.

Mary Leslie, the secretary of Azucar!, was born in Tallahassee but earned her B.S. in Communications/Journalism from the University of North Florida in Jacksonville. She has been a dancer since she was young and discovered casino salsa her last year of college. After returning to Tallahassee, she joined Azucar! as a performer. Mary is the music and health columnist for the Tallahassee Democrat and is taking graduate courses in Editing and Publishing at FSU.
